In Gujarati, it's known as
"Shakar," in English, "Sugar," in Arabic,
"Sukkar," in Bengali, "Bhura chini," in Sindhi,
"Khand," and in Hindi, "Khand." After refining and
solidifying the syrup from white sugar, various forms are made, such as
"Misri" (rock sugar), "Batashe" (sugar drops), and
"Koza Misri" (cone-shaped sugar crystals). The cone-shaped sugar
produced in the Kalpi region of the Jalaun district is known as "Kalpi
Misri."

"Shakar Tari" refers to
raw, unprocessed sugar (jaggery), made traditionally from molasses, which is
white in colour.

Benefits of eating sugar:

safe for children but harmful in large amounts for adults. The smoke from burnt
sugar benefits those with colds, and it helps unblock brain congestion.
Jaggery is also made from sugarcane
juice, retaining its natural taste. Some traditional practitioners prefer desi
jaggery (shakar tari) over the refined white sugar produced mechanically from
sugarcane juice.
