Rape -Indian mustard seeds are small, round, bitter, and
pungent grains that are produced in the Rabi season.

They come in four colours: red, black, yellow, and white.

Their taste is
astringent and sharp.
TEMPERAMENT:
They have a warm, dry
temperament in the third degree.
DOSAGE:
The recommended dosage of mustard seeds is 3 to 5 mashas.
FUNCTION AND USES:
Mustard is heavy, produces gas, and expels stomach worms.
Its seeds are diuretic and stimulate sexual desire. It is beneficial for
treating itching; when applied alone or mixed with a scrub on the body, it
cleans the skin and dissolves swelling. Mustard oil is extracted by pressing in
an oil mill and is known as bitter oil. Approximately 13 seers (about 12.5 kg)
of oil are extracted from one maund (about 37 kg) of mustard seeds. This oil is
also used for cooking in place of ghee and is included in ointments. The
mustard leaves, known as sarson ka saag,
are eaten as a leafy vegetable and have a mild laxative effect.
