fresh, sweet, and free from fibers. It should neither be too large nor too

It is cooling, moistening, soothing, diuretic, mildly laxative, and promotes moisture in the body. It can be eaten alone or cooked with meat or lentils. This vegetable is good for those with bilious (choleric) or sanguine temperaments. It produces healthy bodily humours, is low in calories, gently laxative, and diuretic. It moistens the organs and is the best food for tuberculosis patients.According to Dr. C.D. Menon’s research at the Bengal Sanatorium, people who
consume bottle gourd frequently develop immunity against tuberculosis. In cases
of meningitis and madness, the pulp is applied to the shaven scalp. Bottle
gourd oil alleviates brain dryness and induces sleep. A syrup made from its
seeds provides similar benefits, and oil is also extracted from these seeds,
known as bottle gourd oil. This oil is applied to the body for moisture and to
the brain to relieve insomnia.
To make bottle gourd oil, the pulp is squeezed, and its water is boiled with an equal quantity of sesame oil until the water evaporates, leaving clear oil. This oil is beneficial for bilious fevers, hemoptysis, internal hemorrhages, tuberculosis, and pleurisy when the water from steamed bottle gourd is consumed.
