DEFINE HONEY:
Many plants and flowers release a sweet liquid from their glands, known as
nectar. Honeybees collect this nectar in a special sac or stomach. The
secretion from the bees’ glands acts on this sugar, converting ordinary sugar
into grape sugar. The bees then store it in the hive, where other bees guard it
and perform household tasks to maintain the hive. Honey can appear in two
primary colours: red and white. Its aroma and properties reflect the flowers it
comes from, although the chemical components of most types of honey are largely
similar.
BIRTH PLACES:
In regions like Bengal and Kashmir, where flowers are abundant, the honey is sometimes called "lotus honey," and it is considered particularly beneficial for eye diseases.
NUTRITION:
Honey contains primarily two types of sugars known as levulose and glucose.
Modern research has shown that it also contains vitamins B and C in varying
amounts.
Temperament:
Fresh honey is moderately warm (level
one) and dry (level two), while aged honey is warm (level three) and dry (level
two).
Dosage:
Between 3 to 4 tolas (approximately
35 to 46 grams).
USES AND BENEFITS:

Honey has mild laxative properties, helping to ease digestion.

It disperses gas and fights putrefaction, acting as a natural cleanser.
·
Known for strengthening the body and expelling phlegm from the lungs.
·
Honey enhances the taste of medicines and preserves their potency for
extended periods.

Commonly used in medicinal preparations like:
- Majoon
(herbal pastes)
- Jowarish
(herbal tonics)
- Murabba
(preserves)

For strength and vitality, honey is consumed mixed with warm milk.
·
Its expectorant properties make it suitable for treating coughs and
asthma, either alone or combined with other medications.

Effective in cold-related illnesses:
- Given as honey water for facial paralysis or palsy. Aids
in blood purification and supports heart health.
- Dosage recommendations for temperament types:
For those with a hot temperament: 3
parts butter to 1 part honey.
For those with a phlegmatic
temperament: 1 part butter or ghee to 3 parts honey
Applied in the eyes for burning
vision. A cotton wick soaked in honey and sprinkled with powder borax or frankincense
and placing it in the ear is beneficial for pus.
HADITH:
In a Hadith (Prophetic saying):
“It is mentioned that those seeking
healing should drink honey mixed with rainwater in the morning.”
CLARIFICATION:
To clarify honey, place the jar in warm water briefly, then strain it,
ensuring no water mixes in, as this may cause fermentation.
